A family of four sought a contemporary interior design for their recently purchased villa in the Shunyi district, north of Beijing. The villa is part of a residential compound where the exterior, with its traditional—if somewhat old-fashioned—appearance, could not be altered. Inside, however, we were given complete freedom.
The design brief was precise: everything functional yet hidden from sight should be of the highest quality and performance. Interestingly, although the owner is a leading figure in the tech industry, he requested simple, durable, and long-lasting technology for his home. Our design team therefore prioritized top-level systems for heating, cooling, and electrics, while robust natural timber flooring from Sweden was chosen to span the entire house.
Formerly awkwardly shaped rooms were reconfigured into a smarter, more efficient layout. Surfaces and finishes were developed with a Scandinavian sensibility, where soft, muted tones enliven the otherwise serene base of white walls and pale wooden textures.
